So it’s been quite a few weeks since we’ve been active here on the blog. The reason for that is that October was crazy town with engagement sessions, weddings, and even family sessions galore! We can’t wait to share all of that with you in the coming weeks! Today though, we’re “throwing back” to the beginning of September when we spent the day with Stacy and Doug for their gold pink and navy waterfront wedding along the Mississippi River in Dubuque. It was a beautiful day with just enough cloud cover to give us the most beautiful photo opportunities. 🙂
First, a little bit of a story about these two. They met when they were in Police Academy together and worked as partners for several years before they realized they truly cared about each other far more than as just partners on the force. They decided to date. Though Stacy swore throughout her life that she would never get married, she realized she had found in Doug a man that she wanted to be with for the rest of her life. As they shared in their wedding ceremony, they both respect each other and the hard work they each put in keeping their towns safe. They love that they have so much in common and that their love grew from a true friendship. Their wedding day was a beautiful reflection of that love and friendship.
Stacy began her day with her girls at Embrace Salon in Dubuque. This is a newer salon in Dubuque and the ladies there did an amazing job for Stacy and her ladies!!!
After the salon, we all went back to the Grand Harbor Resort so the ladies could have some lunch and get dressed. Stacy had her dress made just for her. She worked with a seamstress she found through Etsy to get the basic dress created, and then had a local tailor alter it so it perfectly fit her. The result was beautiful and Stacy looked STUNNING in it!!!
Doug and his guys were downstairs in another room of the hotel getting ready. Doug and his guys each wore a wooden bow tie from Two Guys Bowties that Doug had seen on Shark Tank. He loved the idea and immediately knew that’s what he wanted his guys to wear. They were just perfect!!!
Stacy and Doug’s first look was so sweet. The ear-to-ear grin they both had when they saw each other was completely adorable. They laughed and hugged and had so much fun just talking to each other and sharing a little time on their own.
While we were taking photos, we came around a corner and saw a Jeep sitting there. Stacy made a joke that someone had left them a Jeep (she has ALWAYS wanted a Jeep of her own). Well, little did she know that Doug had bought that Jeep for her and had been working with Jeff and I for a month trying to determine how to surprise her with it on their wedding day! Her reaction when he told her was absolutely priceless!!!
After we got to play with the Jeep for a bit, we took a few more photos along the riverfront.
Then it was time for the wedding party to join in on the fun, and have fun they did!!! Stacy and Doug are blessed with an incredible and fun group of friends!
Before we knew it, it was time for the wedding ceremony. Stacy and Doug held their ceremony under the pavilion on the Mississippi waterfront. The view there is wonderful because you can see all up and down the river.
Their reception at StoneCliff Winery was decorated simply and elegantly. We loved the bottles and flowers on the tables!
Because Stacy and Doug are police officers, they wanted to do something fun for their entrance. This is the idea they came up with and it was a hit!
The night was full of incredibly unforgettable moments including their sweet first dances, Stacy’s brother dancing to Grease, and the entire tent full of people signing “Stacy’s Mom” to Stacy’s mom when it came on 🙂
Stacy desperately wants a goat and Doug is not a fan of that idea. His groomsmen kept threatening to get Stacy a goat for their wedding, but instead they just pulled out these great shirts for her! We ended the night with some sweet night photos on the back stairwell of the Star Brewery. What an amazing end to an incredible day!!!
Stacy and Doug, we truly love you guys and hope that you have the most amazing life together!!! We can’t wait to see what the future brings you both!!!
