I first met Emily when I photographed her sister’s wedding several years ago. She is the sweetest person and I fell in love with her right away so when she and her fiancé, Cordt, contacted us to photograph their wedding when they got engaged, we were over the moon!!!! They planned a literary themed wedding in the Peoria area with just a hint of Disney magic. They both love to read and Emily is obsessed with Disney so this was the perfect day for them 🙂
Each of them began their day at a house in Brimfield, IL. Emily was at her grandparents house just outside of town. Cordt was at his friend Matt’s place near town. Emily and her girls all spent the morning hanging out, doing each other’s makeup, getting their hair done, and singing a LOT of Disney tunes 🙂
I just love Emily’s grandma and grandpa. They are so funny and sweet! You’ll see lots of pictures of them throughout this post for sure 🙂 Cordt surprised Emily the morning of their wedding with a few amazingly fun things. First, he recorded a video for her with well wishes and advice from all of their closest friends and family. So many were hilarious and left everyone in stitches! Cordt of course had to give a personal message to Emily which was so sentimental and got her crying a bit. It was a sweet way to begin the day for sure! He also gave her a map of the world that you scratch off for each country you visit, and he had stolen her shoes the night before to write a special love note to her on the bottom. He really is quite a guy! This pretty hairpiece was made by Emily’s sister Beth. Isn’t it so pretty?!? Of course we had to have a Harry Potter ring photo as Emily and Cordt are fans of Harry Potter too. Proof that there was a lot of singing of Disney music throughout the morning. This look exchanged between Emily and Beth just cracked me up!!! For as long as Emily and her sister’s can remember, their grandmother has put on her makeup (especially her lipstick) in the kitchen of her house. I’m so glad we caught this moment of her and grandpa putting on their finishing touches in the kitchen. While I was with Emily as she was getting ready, Jeff ran over to Cordt and the boys while they were getting ready. Cordt opened Emily’s gift right away. Part of her gift was a stone with the lyrics of their song printed on it. Cordt may have led the guys in a slow clap in the kitchen… The biggest disappointment of the day was that no one in Emily and Cordt’s wedding party wanted to have any fun…oh wait…I’m totally kidding! They were all so fun and so funny all day long! We loved this nod to the movie UP with the buttons on Cordt’s boutonniere and Emily’s bouquet. Emily really wanted photos taken on her grandparent’s property which we were more than happy to make happen. While we were at the house throughout the morning, I came across a photo of Emily’s grandma and grandpa in front of their barn taken several years before. I thought it would be really cute to recreate that photo before they left for Emily’s wedding ceremony.
The church where Emily and Cordt were married is the church that Emily’s family has attended for her whole life in Brimfield, IL. Cordt and Emily chose not to see each other before the ceremony, but they wanted to talk to each other so we set them up in the only corner we could find that wasn’t full of guests and let them have a little moment together before the ceremony began. Cordt wrote Emily a letter for her to read too. The following 3 images are a progressive set of photos of Cordt’s reaction to seeing Emily walk down the aisle. This has to be one of the best reactions ever!!!!
Emily’s dad passed away when she was just a girl. Because he wasn’t there to walk her down the aisle, Emily asked his best friend to escort her. He has been like a father to her and her sisters throughout their lives. He was so touched to walk her and you could tell how much it meant to Emily to have him by her side. For their exit, Emily and Cordt had their guests toss sprinkles After the ceremony we headed back to Emily’s grandparent’s house for a couple quick photos of Emily and Cordt together. In the next two photos what you see is Cordt about to pop the cork from the champagne and then Emily’s immediate reaction looking at Jeff’s camera right after the cork nearly hit me in the face. Who said wedding photography is safe?!?! I wanted to recreate the photo of Emily’s grandparents in front of the barn with her and Cordt. I love how the turned out.Next we headed to downtown Peoria for some photos with the wedding party and Emily and Cordt together. We had a lot of fun exploring places to take images throughout the downtown riverfront area. I was so glad when we found these pretty trees! With the sun streaming through them these images are my favorite of the day! The theme of Emily and Cordt’s reception was literary and Disney with colors of purple and green. We loved their decor on each of the tables and throughout the Gateway Building! The Disney song names as the table names was one of our favorite touches. The fun kicked off right away with silly entrances from their whole wedding party.
The whole night was full of cute kisses, belly laughs, and zany dancing! Because of Emily’s father not being able to be there for her wedding day, she asked each of the people that had been there for her throughout her life when she needed a dad to dance with her. The dance with each of these people was incredibly meaningful. Once the formal dances were done, the dance floor opened and the party really began! The After Party kept everyone on the dance floor all night long! Jeff and I might have gotten out on the dance floor a time or two. Love this next photo with TWO UnPosed couples!!!!We ended the evening with a photo of Emily and Cordt in front of the downtown Peoria bridge. Emily and Cordt, thank you so much for asking us to join you for your wedding day! We had so much fun with you two and love you guys so much!!!
