Nicole and Brandon’s chilly spring wedding day in April was certainly a first for us! With weather that vacillated from snow, to rain, and was nonstop wind that whipped around every corner, we had to make a call early on in the day that it was likely we wouldn’t be going outside for any of their photos. When I say that wind was whipping, I’m talking over 30mph winds that seemed to come from every direction. The best part of the day though was that Nicole and Brandon didn’t even blink an eye about it. It wasn’t what they had planned, but they didn’t let it derail the happiness of their day. They were both SO excited to get married that the weather was simply an annoyance.
Nicole and her bridesmaids started the day at Fringe Salon in Dubuque. This salon is one of our favorites, especially because it’s so unique! With the brick walls and really pretty lighting fixtures we always have fun photographing in this space. Not to mention, their stylists are AMAZING and incredibly fun to work with!
The ladies all went back to Grand Harbor to get dressed before Nicole left for her first look with Brandon. Nicole opened a truly sentimental gift that brought on the waterworks for the first time that day.
The guys were getting ready in another room at Grand Harbor not too far from the ladies so we had to make sure the guys didn’t run into the girls before Nicole and Brandon left to see each other for their first look.
Then it was time for Nicole to see Brandon! Both of them were a bit nervous, but the moment they saw each other they smiled at each other and melted into each other’s arms. From that moment throughout the rest of the day, there was rarely a time they weren’t holding hands (except when we made them hang out in different rooms before the ceremony). They were so happy to be next to each other and both of them were truly looking forward to their ceremony.
Then we had their wedding party join us for photos too! This group was hilarious and so much fun!!!
The ceremony was held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in downtown Dubuque. This church is GORGEOUS!!! The stained glass windows are simply stunning!
After the ceremony we spent some time on the party bus to give Nicole and Brandon time to enjoy their wedding party and simply soak in being married.
Their reception was a blast!!!! The laughter and smiles through it all were priceless! Grand River Center was such a great location for their party!!! And their DJ’s (The After Party) kept the dance floor rocking all night!
At the very end of the night, we finally took the chance to brave the outdoors. Though the wind was still blowing and the rain was still falling, we ran out to grab a couple of unique nighttime photos for Nicole and Brandon. These two images were our favorites and Nicole and Brandon even selected one of them as a large canvas to put on the wall of their home! That just makes us giddy!!! 🙂
Nicole and Brandon, you two were ROCKSTARS on your wedding day! Truly, it has been so amazing to get to know you both. We absolutely love you both through and through. It was an honor to photograph your wedding day and we feel lucky that we can call you friends now!
